Pipe laying floats description

Pipe laying floats are primarily used to assist in installing pipelines in water. With pipe laying floats, the pipeline can float at a controlled depth. The floats prevent the pipeline from swaying with the current, improving stability. This makes it easier for workers to position the pipeline correctly, significantly reducing the difficulty of the installation process compared to simply placing it directly. Pipe laying floats are particularly suitable for pipeline installation in shallow water and areas with significant tidal changes. Workers can adjust the spacing and buoyancy of the pipeline floats to position the pipeline appropriately. Pipe laying floats are commonly used in pipeline dredging, subsea pipeline installation, and other coastal construction projects. Although the design of pipe laying floats is very simple, they play a crucial role in actual project applications.

Jerryborg manufactures various types of pipe laying floats to meet your specific depth requirements. We offer three material options for our pipeline laying floats: steel, polyurea-coated, and HDPE. The floats are made from closed-cell foam of varying densities and encased in a durable polyethylene or polyurethane elastomer shell. For added reinforcement, we can also incorporate a nylon fiber reinforcement layer.

Each pipeline foam buoy features integrated strapping grooves for securely attaching the float to the pipe. Jerryborg provides custom end fittings to simplify handling and installation. Depending on your needs, various fastening methods can be used to secure the floats to the pipe, such as straps or steel cables.

Specification

To ensure optimal installation of the float on the pipe, Jerryborg Marine designs pipe-laying floats to accommodate different pipe diameters and water depths. Our pipe laying floats feature a curved groove at the bottom to perfectly match the curvature of the pipe. Due to variations in internal foam and surface materials, the weight and buoyancy of the pipe laying floats may differ. Below are the dimensions of our commonly used pipe laying floats.
