Jerryborg STS Docking Hose

STS hose is a flexible rubber hose used for ship-to-ship transport of crude oil, light oil, and petroleum-based fluid media. These crude oil hoses are often used in harsh conditions, leading to rapid deterioration and rapid wear and tear, so choosing a high-quality brand of STS hose will be faster, more reliable, and safer.

Jerryborg Marine’s top-of-the-range STS flexible cargo oil hoses have outstanding features that provide safety and reliability in various demanding situations. All Jerryborg Marine STS flexible hoses are designed to EN 1765 standards.

Specifications of STS hoses

Jerryberg Marine STS hoses excel in reliability and durability, even under very harsh conditions. The EN 1765 L15 rubber hose has a non-spiralized filament construction, ensuring no permanent deformation. However, temporary kinks and deformations may occur under severe conditions and in the presence of a slight vacuum during operation.

2. Leak-free Tube lining structures

The STS hose’s leak-free liner construction is designed to be highly reliable. The flange and liner are securely bonded together for an excellent seal. The layered tube construction ensures no air pockets are formed, and the manufacturing process guarantees a tight fit. The inner rubber material is highly resistant to oils for increased durability in harsh environments. In addition, the extended bonding area improves overall strength and longevity.

3. Polyester Cord Reinforcement

The polyester cord reinforcement in STS hoses performs well and enhances fatigue resistance after long use. This material ensures the hose retains shape and does not deform permanently, even with repeated use. The material is corrosion-resistant, so it maintains its integrity in harsh environments, while its lightweight properties make handling and installation easier without compromising strength.

4. Body Wire

In EN 1765 S15 type rubber hoses, each helical wire in the reinforcement layer is continuous and unbroken by welding. This design enhances the hose’s strength and pressure resistance.

STS Hoses Pressure Ratings and Designations

Hose assemblies of each type shall be designated by the model letters R, A, S, or L, following the maximum working pressure given in Table 1. The maximum working pressure includes a margin of surge pressure above the normal working pressure.

STS Rubber Hose Classification

Hose assemblies for this application are categorized by end-use as follows:

Type R, rough bore hose assemblies for dockside use are designed to handle demanding conditions and feature a robust and relatively stiff structure. The internal lining, made of reinforced rubber fabric, is supported by a galvanized steel wire spiral for added strength. Type R assemblies are built to maintain electrical continuity, ensuring safety during operations.

—Type A, Armoured rough bore hose assemblies are designed for heavy-duty transfer operations involving highly abrasive materials. These hoses feature a protective outer layer, or “armor,” which provides enhanced resistance to external damage such as abrasion and impact. Type A hose is continuously energized and may be lighter and more flexible than Type R hose.

—Type S, Smooth bore hose assemblies are designed for efficient fluid transfer. Unlike rough bore hoses, these assemblies feature a smooth internal surface that minimizes friction, allowing for faster flow rates and reducing pressure loss. The smooth bore also prevents material buildup, making it ideal for handling less abrasive substances. Type S hose assemblies can be electrically continuous or electrically intermittent.

—Type L Hose assemblies designed for dock service prioritize flexibility, are lightweight, and are easy to handle, making them ideal for fluid transfer in discharge operations. Type L hose assemblies, either electrically continuous or discontinuous, are specifically intended for discharge use (see Warning).

WARNING—Careful consideration is essential when using an electrically discontinuous hose to convey liquids that generate static charges. Never use more than one electrically discontinuous hose in the same conveyor line, and ensure proper electrical continuity between the hose ends and the ground.

Hoses and hose assemblies for this application shall be classified into two classes:

—Grade M: electrically bonded;
—Grade H: Electrically conductive; refer to EN ISO 8031:2009 for updated

recommended markings that indicate conductive linings, conductive covers, or both conductive linings and covers.
