Single Point Mooring Chafe Chain

Jerryborg Marine provides abrasion chains for connection points between tankers and single-point mooring buoys. Their primary function is to replace synthetic cables, bearing the wear and tear from contact with the hull and preventing damage to the cables from the ship’s structure during use. For single-point mooring operations, OCIMF has long provided recommendations for the use of bow mooring components on tankers and has clarified the selection requirements for abrasion chains in its latest guidelines. According to the 2018 OCIMF first edition, abrasion chains typically use R3 or R4 grade and must meet the relevant IACS W22 specifications. Jerryborg Marine’s abrasion chains and related components are selected and manufactured according to these requirements and can be configured and adjusted according to actual project needs.

Regarding the scope of supply, Jerryborg Marine can provide Type A and Type B abrasion chains that meet the requirements of OCIMF 2018, first edition. Type B is suitable for vessels with a deadweight tonnage not exceeding 350,000 tons. We also offer Type A and Type B anti-wear chains that meet the requirements of OCIMF 1993 Third Edition. In addition, we can supply commonly used connecting components such as weak couplings, Kent shackles, connecting shackles, and triangular plates, as well as related components for the upper part of single-point mooring systems.

Chafe Chain Support Buoys

Jerryborg Marine’s chafe chain support buoys are primarily used in single-point mooring systems to support chafe chains, reducing unnecessary sagging, swaying, and friction. During dockside unloading operations, chafe chains, like mooring ropes, endure constant movement and contact; without effective support, they are prone to accelerated wear. Proper support significantly reduces chain movement, thus extending overall service life. When the berth is temporarily unoccupied, each chafe chain can also be supported by the buoy to maintain its condition.

Jerryborg Marine offers a variety of chafe chain support buoys, with standard individual buoys having a reserve buoy range of approximately 900 kg to 5000 kg. Furthermore, we can adjust the buoyancy parameters according to project requirements to meet the needs of different mooring systems and operating environments.

Structurally, the buoys can be equipped with swivel connectors at the top and bottom, connected to the end of the chafe chain near the mooring rope via a short chain; alternatively, a structure can be used where the chain passes through and is secured by a locking plate. The specific solution can be selected based on the on-site installation method and operational habits.
